Unit Cost Desk

What a generated image costs to serve, and who absorbs it

About this desk

Notes kept while pricing and running a third-party browser interface for OpenAI's GPT Image 2.5. The product is GPT Image 2.5 Image Generator: both models selectable, the model ID printed under every result, and the measured cost behind every credit published rather than asserted.

The subject here is narrower than the product — it is the metering. How much an output costs upstream, what a credit has to be worth for the arithmetic to survive a busy month, and which of those numbers are measured versus derived.

On the numbers

Everything quoted is measured against a live endpoint unless the note says otherwise. Where a figure is derived — the 4K column is, because the estimator does not offer it — the note says so in the same sentence as the number. A figure without that label has been run.

I build the product these notes reference. It is an independent interface and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to OpenAI. Nothing here is sponsored and there are no affiliate links.
